sunday arvo offshores

Yesterday the mid north coast had a straight westerly wind blowing all day long. We rarely get days in spring where the winds remains offshore through to the evening and it left many surfers with sore shoulders by the end of the day.

after the dust had settled

got up early this morning hoping for some of the weird light from yesterday's dust storm, but it had all cleared leaving a normal clear spring morning. The dawn light naturally produced the warm yellow hues and the waves were'nt too bad. I took a few snaps and the enjoyed some clean 2-footers.

night surfer

I have been teaming up with Duncan Macfarlane, a young photog from Sawtell lately. He has got himself some "pocket wizards" which allow us to fire a flash remotely from around 100 meters from the camera. In this shot I was lining up the flash from the water providing the LIGHTS while Shaun Cansdell provided the SHOW and Duncan got the BIZ done from the rocks with his long lens. It's great fun and we are starting to get some cool results. This is one of the B-grade images. The money shot is going to be published in the next edition of surfing world magazine, which is due out tomorrow.

local boardriders

Was at Diggers beach this morning, where the Coffs boys were holding their monthly boardriders comp. This pic is of Jayke Sharp during the expression session which included Shaun Cansdell, James Athorn, Madison Williams, Alex Swadling and Alex Maniaitis. More of the action from this session will be up on the SURF PAGE of our website sometime this week.

the perils of being a pro surfer

I did a quick photo shoot with the current world number 1 longboarder; Harley Ingleby this morning. His boardshort sponsor needed a few shots of him riding one of their new lines. Poor ole Harls had to paddle out at 7am in the coldest water we have had all year..... the waves weren't great either, but I think I got a pretty one of him walking up the beach.

up north

The ST Images bus has been up north since last Thursday doing some commercial jobs the Big 4 caravan parks at Yamba and Tweed Heads. We are in between pit stops at the moment, enjoying some beautiful Byron Bay magic. This pic taken an hour ago just up from one of my favourites waves.

Mixing it up

Today's post is about a good mate of mine, Mick Matthews!
Mick surfs at my local way more than anyone else and is probably the keenest surfer I know. He spends his non-surfing time tinkering around in his shaping shed making all sorts of weird and wonderful creations. He experiments with epoxy, timber veneers, balsa and some very funky resin tints.
His "day job" is making and fitting blinds, I reckon he took this up to keep everyone in the dark while he enjoys the early morning sessions to himself.
This bloke is either surfing or thinking about surfing 24/7 and anyone that does that can sit by my fire anytime they like.

The new Pacific Longboarder magazine has just hit the shelves and one of our pics of Rosie Locke features on Page 3. This shot was taken at the lovely first point, Noosa Heads in March. The Australian longboarding magazine is also out and I have 8 or 9 photos in that one too. Both mags are a great read and the ALB mag comes with a free DVD.
