1 degree

Clean, crisp waves first thing today. It was just 1.3 degrees at 6.30am, the nice warm colours in the sky in no way translated to the air temperature. By 7am it had climbed to nearly 2 degrees, I haven’t got the stats in front of me, but I’m pretty sure that was the coldest morning of the year so far!!.... steam

Frosty land temperatures triggered some billowing steam  off the ocean surface this morning. With the water temps hovering around 19 degrees, there was a big difference to the 5 degrees land temps we had at 6.30. Cold, clear starts normally mean perfect blue winter days and today is no different. Take a look...... click here to read more and see all the pics

burst

Golden rays of sunlight burst over the horizon this morning, making for a classic start to the day. The wind was offshore there was a shoulder high south-east swell and it wasn’t that cold. So where was everyone?? for the first hour of light there was only one surfer each at our two most popular beaches.....Clik Here to see more pics

log time

Slightly bigger south-east swell pushing into the Coffs coast today, the clouds were thick first thing this morning but have started to break up and show the odd glimpse of sunshine….. not enough to improve the tan, but hopefully we should see a dry day after the overnight soaking. The pics today were taken tucked inside a southern corner away from the wind, but also away from the swell, good waves for logging and thats exactly what Brett Caller, Jordy Brown and Duncan Macfarlane were doing..... Garth

HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW GARTH??…

Everyone that has surfed the Coffs coast in the last 22 years would at least recognize Garth. You may have seen him ripping up the early session at one of our town beaches or you may know him from his smiling, welcoming face at the Coopers surf center. Nearly all of us would have purchased a wetsuit, surfboard, legrope or at the very least a block of wax off the iconic Garth from Coopers at some stage.
Garth has been the front man at the Coopers jetty store on and off for over 20 years.
We thought we would do a little interview with Garth to find out more about the man from the surf shop..... CLICK HERE to read the interview and see all the pics

longboards

The NSW Longboard state titles have hit Coffs Harbour this week. They started their weeklong event with some sunshine and clean waves at Diggers beach yesterday. This morning, the whole show got shifted to Macaulies beach. The open division heats were up and going at 7.30am. The states best longboarders were splitting and right and left hand peak in the morning sunshine...... CLICK HERE to see more - read more

winter light

The waves were super fun, little waist high peelers running through against the rising yellow sunlight made for some sweet lighting and there was some killer longboarding action going down at the beach I was at. The tide was coming up fast and..... CLIK HERE to see more - read more

colours

It was great to see some colours back in the mix at dawn this morning, the last 3 or 4 days have had a muted tone of grey, which I don’t mind, but there’s nothing like seeing the sky change from one colour to the next as a new day begins. The colours were definitely the highlight this morning because the wave..... CLIK HERE to see more - read more

slideable

Well I got up nice and early this morning, checked a few northern beaches…. nothing going, clouds were thick, waves were small and weak. Came back empty handed, had some breakfast then hit town around 9.30… similar story, small and gutless, not many out surfing, finally found a little peak with a few guys out half way down a town beach. They were having some fun on a high tide sandbank…CLIK HERE to see more - read more

cold

Grey and windy out there today, the public holiday weekend didn’t produce the sort of waves that some were predicting. Only around the head high mark today with south-west winds and rain periods. The last few days have just reminded us that we do get winter in Coffs Harbour. It’s so warm for most of the year that you..... CLICK HERE to see more - read more

empty

The main pic for today’s post shows how good we have got it living in Australia. Waves like this were unloading on the sandbars around Coffs all morning, but no one wanted to go out!! so the hero picture for today is just an empty wave. The swell really jacked up overnight....CLICK HERE to see more - read more.

We’ve been waiting for this morning for the last week! finally we got an all night offshore wind against this solid swell and the conditions were prime for the early surf. Any breaks that have been good on a full tide had some cracking waves breaking just after sunrise this morning. Offshores are predicted for the rest...CLIK HERE to see the mornings barrels and story

soggy

beach break lip throw taken last month when the sun was out

This is the sort of day you won’t see in the tourist brochures. Very soggy out there, the grey skies and steady rain are with us again. Too wet to get the cameras out this morning, so we have some pics from deep in the archives along with a hot new video clip, a never before seen sequence of local ledge Lee Winkler and a heads up on how to get yourself a free surfboard!!... click here to see n read
