its pumpin

Santa came early to the surfers of Coffs this week, delivering a solid south swell from about lunch time yesterday. Waves were a little smaller this morning but still in the really good range. First proper south swell we have had in long time and there were plenty of crew that were on to it. Forecasts are saying it will fade nearly as quick as it came, so get into it while it’s still here...clik here to see more from today

last nite

The beach was a stunning place to be last night. Golden sunlight danced on the clean surface of the ocean, while many locals and early tourists enjoyed the last hour of sunshine. A little offshore wind blew all day yesterday keeping the waves nice and tidy, pity it was still only knee high sets. Today’s photos are all from last night, there has been a very slight increase in swell this morning and we still have that baking sunshine with us, so if you have the day off hit the beach and lap up this perfect weather....see all the shots HERE

revealed

A thick blanket of cloud earlier this morning got pulled back to reveal a perfect blue sky day. The winds are light offshore at the moment and the swell is trying to pick up from our “lake like” conditions that we had to endure all weekend. there's waves!

Best waves in weeks this morning!! just looked back through the archives and we haven’t had a day over 3 foot and clean for quite a while. I went on the a mission to find the best spot before 6 O’clock and didn’t start shooting until after 8. No where was living up to my high expectation, including the spot I ended up taking photos at. I bet some...Click here to read full story

trying

Cracking summer’s morning out there today. A light breeze, warm sunshine and the waves are trying to increase. It was pretty much flat yesterday, but there is a lazy one foot of swell flopping on to the mid tide banks in Coffs, just enough to get you up and into trim. It’s supposed to pi.... click here to see more pics

sunlight

At 5.30am there was some colour! haven’t seen anything but a stale tone of grey for a long time. We had a solid 3-4 hours of sunshine early today and it instantly put a smile on ya face. Clouds are setting in again as I write but we could be in for a rain free day. The weekend had some cracking waves on the back beaches, there was even a decent glass off for the sunday arvo sess. The waves are a little smaller today but well wort... CLICK HERE to see full post

summer

Cracking day outside at the moment. Warm sunshine, light breeze and lush water temps, don’t need too much rubber on today (if any), I went out in a steamer early this morning and nearly died of heat exhaustion! got love the summer time.. there is even a few waves about the place. Fun size north east swell pushing into most beaches with an early offshore wind. That wind has gone more north-east.... click here to read and see more

Today’s main pic has the tell tale signs of a full tilt easterly… these little critters were strewn all over our shorelines this morning, after a night of 35km/hr straight onshore winds. Any surfer will know there is....click here to read and see the rest of today's post

Junky two-footers anyone?… sloppy conditions first up this morning despite the light overnight offshore winds. The wind-swell out wide must be mixed up with a short wave interval, cause all we are getting is weak broken-up peaks. There was some nice light rays coming through a low cloud a bit after 6am… this was probably the highlight of the morning, but looking out the window now, we have another overcast day with a south east onshore wind. There’s talk of an east swell coming mid week… hang in there... click here to see the whole post

mad dash

About 10 past 5 this morning I opened the back door to check out the wind sock, as I do every morning, but my attention was set beyond the fluttering flag to a sky which had sunset potential written all over it. The race was on, with a deep pink and red horizon already starting to do its thing, this little photographer was getting excited. Sunrises only last few minutes, so within 30 seconds lenses, filters and camera bags are flying all over the place as I try to get my favourite landscape capturing kit assembled. Running down my local beach with T-Shirt inside out, bed hair flapping in the wind and two camera bags hoisted over each shoulder I must have looked like I was late for an early morning flight… luckily no one was around watching my uncoordinated mad dash for sunrise glory....CLICK HERE to see all the pics from today

coffs boardriders

The northerly pattern continues today. Its been the same for the last week. Light winds early make for cleanish, fun waves on the backbeaches followed by howling north-east winds in the afternoons, which are blowing up just enough north-east swell for the next day. There were plenty of waves for the weekend warriors and some okay waves for the Coffs boardriders meet that was held yesterday. Today’s photos show some of the action from the last Coffs boardriders comp of the year.... click here to see more pics

go beach

Baking sunshine, light northerlies, the water feels amazing…. today is a killer day to be on the Coffs coast. Go surf, swim, snorkel, fish or just walk along the beach, nothing will beat it! The north east swell is possibly a little bigger today, hunt out the northern corners and you will find some joy right along the coast. Early low tides are...click here to read more and see all the pics from today.

springtime sleds

No point complaining about the lack of surf.. the bad winds… la la la.. just get out there and get what your given. Take this sorta attitude to the spring time waves and you come in smiling every time. Having a good grovelling board helps too and I reckon Johnny Craig has found himself a spring/summer board to conquer all. He was of course shredding on this wide little 5′9… I had a go myself and it went unreal…. there’s no bad waves just bad choices of boards... click here to see the full post.

north winds

I hope you like northerlies, cause we are going to be getting em for the next 7 days. That devil spring time wind is all over the short to long term forecasts. Luckily the coffs coast is blessed with plenty of large northern headlands…click here to see the full days post

east swell

pumping east swell out there today…. loving the month of November so far. The early full tide didn’t match up too well with some of our new sandbanks, but when its four foot and clean it’s worth the paddle. A dropping tide and the winds turning to the south later today could bring some new spots back into play. If you can get a wind.....click here to read on and see all the pics

boardriders surf clip

Coffs Boardriders go camping 2010 from Tom Woods on Vimeo.
One weekend in October the Coffs Harbour boardriders drove 2 hours south and set up camp at an ideal little beach break..... they had campfires, played some bush cricket and of course went surfing, this clip will give you a taste of what went down.

yesterday

Only crew with appropriate surf craft will be getting salty today. Even a wide fish would’nt have cut the mustard, however the log riders were getting some fun looking sliders and once again were the feature of todays pics.Unlike last month, spring is now living up to expectations of poor surf…shows how good we had it in September....click here to see full post

rainy and grainy

lone wolf - bret caller

There were a few fun and sunny waves over the weekend break, but that has all come to an end this morning. This week has started off with a bad case of “Mondayitis” Only ankle high waves breaking in the steady rain…. Brett Caller was kind enough to paddle out, so I could get someone surfing this morning, there was no one else even checking the beach between 6.30-7.30... See more HERE

full tide

There is still some south swell hanging around this morning, but most spots are getting done in by the high tide. Once again those outside banks with the deep inside gutter really suits the lower tides, especially when the swell is under the four foot mark. It was still a nice sunny morning to go for a paddle before work/scho....click here to see the rest of today's post

anticipation

Friday at dawn; there is no wind, it’s still, mostly overcast with a hint of sun just trying to peep through the gap in the horizon and a blanket of cloud, which stretches back to the west over the great dividing range. The ocean is rumbling loud enough to suggest there is some swell happening, so the anticipation high as I motor down the beach, but the scene is far from what is expected. It looks as if it’s blowing 50 knots from the east, I check 3 beaches before I find a spot that looks worth surfing. Huey must be...... click here to see all the pics and read

Had the twin angle happening this morning. Sherrin came down and shot long lens while I went for a swim with the wide angle. The ocean has some energy today!! there are some solid waves at south facing beaches this morning. Plenty of empty beachbreaks around for those who want spend at extra few minutes looking around. Today’s photos are all of John Craig surfing a solo session at beachie not all that far from Coffs. He and a few random seagulls were the only living things I saw along this beautiful secluded stretch of coast.... clik here to see more pics

the Occ factor

Massive turnout for the monthly coffs boardriders meet yesterday. Yes the sun was shining, yes there were fun clean waves about, but I think the big draw card was the opportunity to surf with and meet Occy. That’s right former world champ and the most liked surfer ever; Mark Occhilupo was at Diggers beach yesterday much to the stoke of the local grommets. He was pushing the grommies into waves, signing autographs, posing for photos and being quite a good sport about it all.... read the rest of today's post HERE
