The third round of the worldwide Innersection competition kicked off last night and we have another entry into the mix, this time of Woolgoolga local Johnny Craig. For those who don’t know John he is a surf stoked shack master who has grown up surfing the beaches north of Coffs Harbour. He is hands down one of the best tube riders on the coast and this clip is an absolute barrel fest that shows exactly that. John works 5 days a week tying steel, so our filming was limited to the weekends and the odd day off. He’s going up against kids with $100K sponsorship deals and all the time in the world to surf, and I reckon his section stacks up pretty well against them. Please, please help us by going to the website and joining (its free) and supporting the underdogs by giving it a solid star rating (10 stars would be good) Local lad Harley has already made the cut, lets see if we can get another local into this killer video!! groundwork
It’s a surf day peeps!! we’ve got a couple of sweet tube shots care of some handy groundwork by John Craig. For most of us, the morning surf check happens at our local beach about 10 minutes after we crawl outta bed, but Johnny’s morning surf check starts the afternoon before. He drives up and down the coast while the arvo onshores are blowing and scopes out all the sandbars and what they are doing on certain tides and makes his call for the next day. He is then up well before light standing on a sand dune seeing if his predictions were right….. I reckon this morning he got it pretty spot on....CLICK HERE to see all the mornings pics

springtime sleds
No point complaining about the lack of surf.. the bad winds… la la la.. just get out there and get what your given. Take this sorta attitude to the spring time waves and you come in smiling every time. Having a good grovelling board helps too and I reckon Johnny Craig has found himself a spring/summer board to conquer all. He was of course shredding on this wide little 5′9… I had a go myself and it went unreal…. there’s no bad waves just bad choices of boards... click here to see the full post.

tubes
Some super springtime tubes about the place this morning. There was just enough swell to light up the outside sandbanks, even on the early morning high tide. The whole coast looks so different after all that rai...Click here to see all of todays post

johnny solo
The ocean has some energy today!! there are some solid waves at south facing beaches this morning. Plenty of empty beachbreaks around for those who want spend at extra few minutes looking around. Today’s photos are all of John Craig surfing a solo session at beachie not all that far from Coffs. He and a few random seagulls were the only living things I saw along this beautiful secluded stretch of coast.... clik here to see more pics

smiling
Every weekend surfer should still have a smile on their face after yesterday. We had perfect conditions right up until lunchtime on Sunday. A well spaced out south east swell was brushed clean with grooming north west wind….. the beachies on the mid north coast were firing.... CLICK HERE to see the pics

smokin
Oh yeah!! it was pumping today, sorry for the late post folks, I spent a little longer at the beach this morning. We found some beautiful blue/green barrels exploding 50 meters from the shoreline. Johnny Craig and Harley Ingleby were my targets. I couldn’t even tell you how barrels they scrored…. HEAPS!…. how deep is john craig in the pic above???... lanterns
Another golden morning on the mid north coast. Yellow-gold cylinders breaking 50 meters from the shoreline at dawn this morning and me and Johnny Craig were the only folks around. You cannot complain about the crowds around these parts

messed up
East swells still up, but its still messy and unorganised at most beaches. This spot had a few, but it was really inconsistent. Should start seeing cleaner waves on Wednesday.

novelty wave
John Craig
Well me and Johnny checked everywhere from Mullaway to Coffs and found nothing this morning. Swell has increased a fair amount but the beaches are so stirred up and breaking miles out to sea. On top of that it blew northerly all night which takes out a heap of options. Ended up finding a little rock wedge with a cool backdrop for todays post

rock ledge
Today's pic is from deep in the archives. I haven't seen this rock ledge break for a long time, its a very fickle wave from our northern region, it only really gets surfed by a handful of locals who are well tuned into it. One advantage of this 3 months of small swells is that the sand should be building up nicely off the end of it. hopefully it will light up again this autumn.
Today is just plain flat, well it was first thing this morning on the fullish tide, chance of a southerly change either tonight or tomorrow.

JC
Caught up with me mate Johnny Craig today, John has been working up northern West Oz for a good part of the last 6 months and has only been surfing a handful of times. He was stoked to get back in the water this Christmas and as always he was in some good form.
These were taken around 11am. We still have a little east swell running.
we found a nice high tide bank and had some fun
