loggin mates

Hooked up with some logging mates this morning…. these guys love riding heavy single fin longboards, so today’s clean, small peelers were ideally suited to their craft of choice. Sage Joske (nambucca heads local) Issac Fields (evans head lad) and Maia Close (newcastle originally from Urunga) all came together at a little southern point to share some waves and a yarn in the perfect morning sunshine.... lush

A sparkling start on the mid north coast coast today. A warm morning with gentle winds, clear skies and clean running waves that were perfect for a longboard or a wide shortie. We may just get an easter weekend without rain if this weather holds in. Even thou...Click here to see all the action from this morning

gear change

The autumn surf-season kicked into gear yesterday morning. Beach breaks up and down the coffs coast were firing!!! this is the sorta stuff we’ve been waiting for. Overhead waves with clean faces and barrel sections galore. The east swell has not only picked up in size, it has gained a lot more push... Click here to see/read yesterday's post

yesterdays post

The first 3 beaches I checked this morning were a bit of yawn…knee high at best, but I’m glad I didn’t give up. I ended up finding a couple of swell magnets that were pulling every last inch out of the small east swell....CLICK HERE to see/read full post

sun-shiney day

After a cool and crisp start to the morning, today is turning on postcard perfect weather. School holiday makers have lucked into some prime beach conditions this week and the grommies were out in force. Tiny clean waves were enough to get the big guys going on the longboards and they were near perfect waves for the kids who are learning to ride....CLICK HERE to see all the pics

half a day

Just when the swell looked like fading out, it muscled back up this morning, but seemed to bring back the wonk with it. I spent the whole morning driving around to get these half dozen photos today. Sometimes it takes just a half an hour to get em…. today it took half a day. It was a case of thinkin...CLICK HERE to see full post

simmo's prize

You only have to take one look at today’s main picture of Greg Simpson to know it was a perfect morning to go surfing. A pumping autumn morning to round out the last day of March, with golden sunshine, light winds and a groomed east swell that poured straight into all of the Coffs beaches. Now we just..... Dean Morrison has a brand new profile film out called “A Dingo’s Tale” and guess what?? He’s coming to Sawtell to show it to us Coffs coasters!!
It’s been put on by surf film distributor VAS entertainmentSawtell cinema and I think Sawtell legend Barney Miller has something to do with it all. Watching a surf film at a packed cinema is an awesome experience, especially when it features one of the best tube riders in surfing history. It not everyday we get a chance to see a new surf flick on the big screen, so I’d be grabbing this opportunity with both mitts.... CLICK HERE to see the trailer and get more info

the maldives lure

DUST swirls around the old bus as she shudders and stops to pick up a passenger.
The year is 1972, or thereabouts. The gun with the wheel is young; late teens, could be early 20s. He’s thin, fit, healthy. Glint of adventure in the eye. The bloke who hops on is 24 maybe, ugly, with a beard.
The driver, Tony “Hussein” Hinde usually doesn’t stop for a straggler. But this bloke looks like a surfer. No ticket? No problem. Come along for the ride, mate!
The bus is going to the mines. Surfers and shapers from around Australia who have

beach day

Weather conditions don’t get much better than what’s on offer this morning. A golden sky was warmly backlighting the morning crew today, while a light west wind was brushing clean a 2-foot east swell, not the kind of day you...CLICK HERE to see all the pics

drainpipes

Found a crazy shallow bank to shoot some water photos for this morning’s post. The swell has lost its wobble and the perfection has started… it’s a little smaller than yesterday but when you are getting tubes like this that doesn’t seem to matter. On more than one occasion I buried my water-housing into the shallow sandbar trying to get under these drainpipes. Johnny Craig was again the....click here to read and see the full post

autumn combo

Light winds, warm water, swell, sunshine…. autumn is upon us and it is sublime, surfers of the mid north coast are loving it. Only bummer is the daylight savings hours for the early morning surfer. The sun doesn’t come over the horizon till nearly 7 O’clock, which doesn’t leave a lot of time for the crew trying to sneak in a decent surf before work/school….. hanging for daylight savings to end.....click here to see all the pics
