winters gone

Last day before winter is officially over for 2010. Today’s conditions summed up what most of this season has been like. Sunny, light winds and just a medium sized swell, enough to get you out there, but nothing memorable. We did’nt really get that classic big winter swell, but we did’nt have too many days that you couldn’t get out there for a surf. I think we will have to stamp it as average and look ahead to spring….. hopefully there are some surprise swells around the corner.... see all this morning watershots HERE

woolgoolga boardriders

Sunny and warm with a good southerly swell is what greeted the woolgoolga boardriders for their monthly get together yesterday. We got down there around mid morning and snapped the photos that fill up today’s post. Conditions look as good this morning with gentle offshore winds and a nice southerly swell still pulsing from the weekend. I know there are quite a few tired arms this morning after our first swell in a few weeks.... CLICK HERE to more.

surfer portraits

It’s just plain flat today and no one is surfing, so instead of spending my time shooting, I have put together a new gallery featuring portraits of our local ocean lovers. The “surfer portraits” series is something we intend on expanding over the coming months and years, but to get it started you can check out our first 20 HERE

sneaky swell

South swell magnets were pulling in some overhead waves this morning. The peak of this sneaky swell was unfortunatley squashed by a flooding 8.30am high tide. Beaches that aren’t accepting of the directional south swell were still idling in struggle street at a lazy waist high. The arvo low tides will be the go today.....click here to see the rest of today pics.

hot curl

Earlier this year Emerald beach surfer Mark Ingleby embarked on a long and careful journey of producing this beautiful crafted Hot Curl surf board. The hot curl board originated in Hawaii in the 1930’s, it became the board of choice for Hawaiians right up to the 1950’s. The idea to make a replica of the Hot Curl has been rattling around in Mark’s head since the 1980’s, he finally got around to making one when he discussed and then saw Paul Joske’s Paulownia version. These boards are tailor made for larger waves with push, so now Mark is waiting for that perfect day to have his first ride on it!!..... CLICK HERE to read the rest of today post

warm blanket

A thick blanket of cloud covered us folk on the mid north coast at first light and kept us toasty warm. If was nice not to have freezing cold fingers clinging on to the tripod at 6.30 this morning. The warmth from yesterday was retained overnight and while the overcast conditions look like staying with us for the rest of the day it should get to a comfortable 22 degrees (it was already 18 degrees at 6.30am!!)... roos

A sloppy north east windswell didn’t look real flash at first light today. I didn’t find anyone surfing on the northern beaches and I wasn’t that suprised. So I grabbed a couple of shots of the beach dwelling roos and headed home. The conditions did improve slighty by mid morning with a hour or two of light south west winds, this is when I snapped the... CLICK HERE to read the rest

its on!

We are back on this morning! the swell started creeping in last night and today the dawn patrollers were greeted with a solidish south east swell. The winds are going to be fairly light all day, maybe a slight puff out of the north, but if you can free up an hour or two it should be worth it....... short lived

Harley on Saturday.... see full sequence here
If you got your surfing done before lunch on Saturday you would still have a smile on ya face as you trudged off to work or school today. The well groomed south east swell only lasted for a few hours before a nasty north east wind took the swell from overhead to waist high by Sunday morning. Like Sunday there are still some tiny clean waves at certain swell magnets this morning, but most of our beaches..... Click here to read and see todays post

peelers

Clean and crisp on the coast this morning. Our north east swell faded during yesterday and we are now left with some small waist high peelers on the beachbreaks. The longboarders were getting some neat sliders in the golden light just before 7am.... CLICK HERE to see more pics from today

north east winter swell

Harley noseriding trim
Nice clean lines are sweeping in from the north east this morning, but that approaching high tide was turning possible kegs into fat dregs at some spots. That north east swell really cleaned up yesterday arvo and certain back beaches started to fire on the dropping tide.....CLICK HERE to read more and see more of today's pics

shipwrecked

Coffs Harbour had it’s very own micro version of the “Pasha Bulker” at Park Beach this morning!! A strong north east swell proved too much for this sea fairing vessel and Huey sent her to the beach. It was a shipwreck looking morning today with heavy rain clouds and wild looking untidy swell. The northern corners a....... CLICK HERE to see more pics from today

clean peaks

Plenty of clean peaks on offer this morning, a nice little offshore breeze is brushing up against the shoulder high south east swell, most open beaches should have something to play with.
The 2010 Jesus Pro Am wrapped yesterday arvo at Diggers Beach. Fun clean waves were had for the entire event and the talent was red hot, we have got a new gallery up to show some of the action..... see today post HERE

Billy Tolhurst on the move... 7am this morning
Well if you were slow to get out of bed this morning after the Coffs cup, you didn’t miss out on too much. The swell was small to tiny, but the conditions were ideal. The morning crew all had their longboards out this morning and were......CLIK HERE to see all the pics from today

crisp

We are back into a pattern of clear skies and light offshore winds, which brings crisp mornings and perfect winter days of sunshine. The waves have dropped back another notch overnight, but they are so much cleaner. Golden waist high runners peeling against the cool westerly is what the before work/school crew were faced with this morning..... CLICK HERE to see all the pics from today
